They don’t want to put in the effort it takes to lead the new workforce. In the opinion of this employee retention author, some leaders are less than motivated themselves. Coincidently, these organizations have great employee retention as well as great engagement. It has worked in tough, dirty and mundane environments. This employee recruitment expert has also used this approach in agriculture, food processing, manufacturing, and construction as well as with my clients. Nonetheless…it worked because we had a highly motivated workforce in general. Perhaps, we were unique in that we used the C.R.A.P Philosophy.
WHERE ARE THE GO GETTERS SOFTWARE
Having been an HR Leader in a software development company, we were motivating all of our people 15 years ago. Maybe they need to show respect for the fact that young people’s value systems may be different than theirs. Maybe they need to show their people they care about them, and don’t simply see them merely as a means of production.

Maybe they need to explain to their people they are valuable, and they matter. Maybe they need to show people that what the organization does matters. These organizations talked about alternatives like outsourcing to India. Two of the organizations that were pointed out were a law firm and a software development organization. Instead of bemoaning the fact that the new workforce is different, it’s time for leaders put effort into motivating these young people. Is that the way it should be? No…it’s not! However, it’s the way things are in today’s world. These employers need to recognize young people are different and must be motivated. It was as if people are supposed to come to these organizations and be highly motivated.
WHERE ARE THE GO GETTERS MOVIE
As it is, the movie is enjoyable but we are left on our appetite considering the amazing cast and music featured here. What this employee retention speaker and employee retention expert found appalling was that there was little talk of motivating people. A second writer might have tightened things up considerably and led to a classic. Although I think Martin Hynes shows real talent, I think this is yet another case of an indie- movie that could have benefited from more people being involved in the formative stage.

The music that is featured in The Go-Getter enhances the movie experience greatly and, along with the solid acting, is probably what prevents us from completely losing interest. Any road movie benefits immensely from a good score/soundtrack and this is definitely the case here. The cinematography is adequate, although a little distracting at times. The one who stood out to me was Bill Duke, better known for his many roles in 80s action flicks. Many other character appears, many of which are played by actors you will recognize and have enjoyed at one time or another. This not only provides the most interesting story elements but also serves as an interesting device for the audience to know what Mercer (rather the quiet type) is thinking and feeling throughout his road trip. I'm a big fan of Zooey Deschanel and here she shines again as Kate, the stolen car's owner who connects by phone with Mercer and has conversations with him. Jena Malone is great as usual, although her part doesn't add much to the story except as a plot element. Lou Taylor Pucci gives a solid performance as the protagonist, Mercer. You can feel the writer's effort to make the various people odd, as opposed to organic and real. Writer/director Martin Hynes probably tries too hard to concoct an odd story and as a result, the entire film feels a little too self-conscious at times. He steals a car travels many miles and meets many odd characters along the way. We follow young Mercer's quest to find his half-brother after their mother's death. This is a fairly enjoyable road movie that mixes elements of romance, comedy and coming- of-age genres.
